Two people were escorted out.
That's worthy of a news story?!
I sure wish that the cart was pulling the horse here. You know, that those paying for this became fed up with it, that their tempers flared, and unemployment benefits would then expire as a natural result. Lord knows I’m tired of paying for it.
As Baugh and others have noted, it will not be easy, quiet, or peaceful to detach a suckling piglet from the teat. But the sow is running dry and it will happen one way or another. I can hear the howls of protest:
You oppose unemployment benefits? And NOW of all times, in the holiday season!!! You are one evil, cold-hearted bastard!
Thanks! I work to feed, clothe, and shelter my family. Everyone able-bodied man I know should do likewise. Are you saying they should not have to suffer any inconvenience or consequence?
On the other hand, being unemployed could be a great opportunity to get a head start on preparing for doom. Who's going to do the best when it hits the fan? Will it be the rich man living on a ridge lot overlooking the city in his overleveraged McMansion who eats out every night for dinner and thus has only a couple days worth of food in his house? Or will it be someone who is already having to be resourceful to survive?
Get out your CW2 cube folks.
One axis for compression would be the Location axis. Another is the Wealth axis. By making us all poorer (and that's happening right now to all of us-employed or not) the cube is being compressed. This can favor the rich who will still be rich (by comparison) after the collapse. It can also favor the poor who may not have much materially, but have learned how to get by even so. It will most definitely not favor those who are in the center of the cube and are pushed into poverty.
